This body of work has developed from exploring the land around where I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico for the last 30 years. Many of the paintings are based on specific paths, or specific plants encountered along the way. The work is also about how one explores the many levels of place, and I like to start with not-knowing.  After field studies, the beginning of each piece in the studio is a leap of faith with the first mark. Then the listening and responding begins. A meditation cushion in my studio faces the painting I'm working on. When I'm not sure what comes next, I have a seat to look and wait. It's a conversation, and I follow the lead of the piece.
